Prostate Cancer - Is Prevention Possible?

Although many of the conditions of prostate cancer are not something that is brought on to an individual by their own doing, there are some things that can actually increase their chances of having this condition.

For individuals that are at risk, it can be beneficial to use several prevention means in order to delay or stop the onset of prostate cancer. Although there is no definite way to prevent it, there are some things that can be done to help.

First, realize the risk. It is necessary for those that are at risk to realize that they are. Most men do not realize this because they didn’t know that their father had it or that anyone in their family history had it. This is common because many men die without realizing that they have it and die from other conditions. Still, those with a family history are twice as likely to get it. Also, more black men will get it over Caucasian or Hispanic men.

Western cultures are more likely to have it over others because they tend to eat more fatty meats.

But, it is also diagnosed more in the United States than elsewhere do to increased screening options.

Still, the use of some vitamins such as Vitamin E and Selenium have been shown to help in prevention of cancers. It is necessary for individuals to take these vitamins daily. Also, soybeans have estrogens that can help to prevent cancer. These can be found in other plants as well. There are also some medications currently being used to help individuals at risk to avoid getting the disease but have no as of yet been available.

It can also be helpful for those at risk to reduce the amount of animal fat that is known to increase risk of prostate cancer. Still, for many, even these measures can still lead to cases of prostate cancer.

For individuals at high risk, it is necessary to be screened regularly for the disease to help in prevention of worsened stages of prostate cancer.
