The Torture of Kidney Stones
Recognizing the Problem
I have heard the passing a kidney stone is analogous
to the pain of delivering a baby. Except of course, you don’t have
the joy of a baby to look forward to help you through the rough
spots. Kidney stone pain is debilitating. It can interfere with
being able to work. It can go on for days. It can re-occur. Torture
is an apt description.
Years ago, my best friend had a pet miniature bunny.
He was in the prime of life for a bunny but suddenly started not
doing so well. Her father, a long time breeder of rabbits, had bad
news. Apparently bunnies get kidney stones and it is fatal for them.
He had the sad news to give her; her baby would be in horrible pain
and die within days. We gave him Homeopathic Uva Ursi in his water.
Within hours he passed a stone the size of my little finger nail!
But it was absolutely smooth. Next thing he was hopping about, and
lived to a happy old age. So much for Homeopathics being "just
psychological".
An Alternative
If you have seen your Doctor and he/she has confirmed
that kidney stones are the cause of your pain and just recommended
letting your stone just pass on its own, there is something you can
try. Homeopathic Uva Ursi, or Berberi has been taken for many years
by kidney stone sufferers. It apparently dissolves the stones in
place. The first thing you will notice is a easing of pain. The
irritating sharp edges on the stone are the first to go. Within
hours you may be able to smile again! Within days the stones may no
longer appear on an ultrasound. The pain will go away. You may
notice that you pass a small gelatinous mass.
Using Homeopathic Uva Ursi
If you have not taken Homeopathics before, here are
some tips. Your Doctor will want you drinking liquid. Take two or
three of the tiny pills, or two drops if you have it in liquid form,
1.) Put under your tongue to dissolve, and/or 2.) add to water and
shake or stir vigorously. (The pills don’t have to dissolve.) Always
have a glass of this you are drinking. You will probably notice a
reduction in pain within 30 minutes. However, DO NOT take anything
with mint in it, as this interferes with the action of the
Homeopathic.
Continue to take the Uva Ursi for several days to a
week, until all the pain is gone and/or you have passed the stone
and/or have a clean ultra sound. Homeopathics do not have any known
interference with any pain killers or other drugs your Doctor may
have provided for you.
You certainly can use Uva Ursi pre-emptively. I don’t
know of any side effects of this medication. It is often used by
women to treat urinary tract infections. If you may be pre-disposed
to stones, try this for one week a year as a preventative.
Considerations
Even where I live, in Alternative Medicine Heaven,
Homeopathic Uva Ursi is hard to find. No local store carries it in
its pure form, either as Uvi Ursi or as it is sometimes known as
Berberi. Obviously ordering it for you when you, or your loved one
is in severe pain, not such a good solution. So, check the
Homeopatic mixtures. One of the major brands has a product for
urinary tract support that contains our Uva Ursi. You will just have
to read the fine print on little boxes until you find it. The staff
probably won’t know what you are talking about. This is one case
where substituting the herb will not provide the desired result. You
need the Homeopathic. You will probably spend less than $10.00.
